‘Mathematics is not about numbers, equations, computations, or algorithms: it is about understanding.’ William Thurston
On Thursday 1st August HGC’s Yr5 to Yr11’s had the opportunity to compete in the Australian Mathematics Competition.
Over 75 minutes, our students faced 30 mathematical challenges. These problems were designed to test mathematical thinking where students could problem-solve just as quickly, with or without a calculator. The problems were scaffolded to get progressively more difficult. By the end of the competition, the questions were even challenging to the most gifted students.
Students of all standards managed to progress and were challenged to the best of their ability. Well done to those who took part, you are the problem-solvers of tomorrow!
