It is with great pride and admiration that we congratulate HGC Year 7 student, Jael Wena on coming 3rd at the 2018 Junior Eurovision Song Contest which was held in Minsk, Belarus over the weekend. Jael definitely put Doreen and Hazel Glen College on the map with her powerful performance of ‘Champion’ which you can watch here!
Many staff, students and parents of the College have had the pleasure of seeing Jael perform at assemblies and College events over recent months, and it was great to see so many in our community getting behind Jael and voting over the last few days.
If it was solely up to the jury of judges from the 20 participating countries, Jael would have taken out 1st place as they voted Jael as their favourite. Collectively however, as votes were tallied to include votes from the public, Jael came in at 3rd place. This is an unbelievable achievement at any age, let alone at just 12 years and we believe the best is yet to come for Jael. What a remarkable talent she has to share and what an inspiration she is to us all!
We look forward to Jael’s return to Australia and to HGC where she can share her experience with us. We can’t wait to see what the journey ahead will bring for Jael – it is sure to be big!
