Our Year 5 students have been studying poetry, and as an introduction to the topic, they have been learning about the traditional Japanese poetry of Haiku. These poems are 3 lines long with the syllable count of 5, 7, 5.
They are traditionally about nature.
Students have been encouraged to use figurative language to give their poetry greater emotional and sensory depth.
Here are some Haikus that have been created by our students.
