Melbourne Writers Festival 2019

What does it take to write an awesome book?

On Wednesday 4th September, some of our Year 3 and 4 students attended the Melbourne Writers Festival, held at State Library Victoria. The event celebrates the talent and ideas of hundreds of writers from Australia and around the world.

The students saw two well-loved talented Australian authors, Felice Arena who has recently written The Great Escape, and Andrew Daddo who has recently written Atticus Van Tasticus.

Felice Arena spoke to our students about where he gets inspiration for his stories and gave the advice to young writers to read all genres every day.

Andrew Daddo spoke about descriptive writing to help the reader visualise the story. His tip was to begin a story by closing your eyes to get a story in your head.

Our students really enjoyed the experience‚ÄĒfinding inspiration for their own writing back at school.
