HGC’s ToMpetitors compete in Tournament of Minds

On Saturday, seven of our gorgeous middle-schoolers competed in Tournament of Minds at LaTrobe University in Bundoora. Our team (nicknamed the ToMpetitors) consisted of:

 Abbey D. (5A)
 Philomena S. (5G)
 Lachlan D. (5H)
 Katerina Z. (6D)
 Amanat J. (6E)

 Xavier G. (6E)

This event was the culmination of many weeks of hard work, with the ToMpetitors having to learn to work together as a team to create a response to a challenge. The students were responsible for everything from reading set texts, to creating a script, building props and keeping a budget. On Tournament day they had ten minutes to perform their solution, including set up and clean up, in front of a panel of judges and audience. They also competed in a top-secret spontaneous challenge. For several of the students, it was also their first time on a university campus and entering a lecture theatre, which was incredibly exciting for them!

The students worked extremely hard, had a blast on the day and are now excitedly awaiting feedback from the judges. I am super proud of their effort and the great attitudes with which they represented our College. If you see them around, please congratulate them and ask them about their experience!
