How Parents Can GET INVOLVED at HGC!

BUILDING A STRONG HGC COMMUNITY THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS

At Hazel Glen College we are committed to building a community culture that reflects and represents our diverse and broad community. The respectful partnerships between our staff, students, families and community partners connects our Community to build strong foundations and values that engage and inspire a positive culture, where our students can thrive and reach their potential.

Research clearly shows the positive effects of parent involvement on children, families and school where parents continuously support their child’s learning. The 3-way partnership between school, students and families not only improves communication and understanding, but also fosters and encourages a child’s learning and achievement for future success. Being involved as a parent shows our children that we value education, are invested and place their learning as an important priority in our lives. It also shows you are working in partnership with and have mutually respectful relationships with their teachers and school.

Getting involved in our college community has a number of benefits, it is not all about the kids! You as parents/carers are an important part of this relationship with your own special role to play. We have many new families moving into our area who don’t have families or friends who are looking to connect and build their support network! You may be looking to make connections with those with similar interests or with families of your child’s friendships. Connection has many forms, ones that can last a lifetime and make a real positive difference in your family life.

How can you get involved?

We live in a society where it can be a constant struggle on our time as parents. Juggling work, sports and activities, schooling/education, managing a home and family budget – and all whilst achieving that ultimate goal of ‘balance’ where we also fit time for ourselves in – sound familiar! We understand that finding time to help out and get involved at the college can be tough however partnerships comes in varying forms – it’s not just about helping in the classroom. Throughout the year, we have a number of ways you can get involved; it may be a one-off event, doing things from home like contacting library books, laminating, helping with fundraising and events or doing a shift in the Cafeteria. You may have a particular skill or passion for something that you want to share or use, if so – we would love to hear about it!

Some examples of ways you can get involved at Hazel Glen College include:

• Classroom helper – reading, excursions, class related activities, social gatherings. Our teachers and students love having helpers in the classroom. Click here for more details on how you can get involved within the classroom.
Note: to assist in any school, you are required to have a Working with Children Check.
Obtaining one is a quick and simple process but a necessary one. Click here for more details on how to apply for this check.
