HGC’s Athlete Development Academy students have some amazing opportunities most kids can only dream about. Recently they had an inside tour of the MCG, where some of the highlights included the hallowed grounds, change-rooms and Member’s Hall. The student experienced an incredible sense of awe walking where so many of their heroes had walked before them.
The HGC athletes then went to the National Sports Museum to complete the “Game on” Interactive Sports Tour. The Students tested their goal-kicking skills against AFL players, compared cycling speeds and tested their reaction times against elite athletes. There was something for everyone – with sporting activities including everything from archery to netball!
After their museum experience, the students got an insight into different sports leadership opportunities when they toured the Richmond Football Club.
Next, the ADA students headed for Pro Sport where they underwent a high-performance training session. Their physical capabilities were tested and recorded. Students also had the amazing opportunity to complete a spin class in an altitude chamber, where oxygen was sucked out of the room to replicate training at a high altitude. After such a physically demanding day, the students finished off by spending time in an ice bath to aid recovery.
