College Council – Notice of election and call for student representative nominations

All government schools in Victoria must have a School Council. They are a legally formed body that is are given powers to set key directions of a school within stipulated guidelines. As you can appreciate there is a great deal of work and planning as we continue to build the culture and significant growth of our College over the next few years.

In 2018, all schools across the State that have Year 7 students and above are required to add two students to the Council’s constituted membership. Our College Council will now consist of 15 members, as follows:

  • 6 Parent
  • 4 Staff
  • 1 Principal / Executive Officer
  • 2 Co-opted members
  • 2 Students (Y7-Y10)

Two student vacancies (Y7-10) now exist. Please note that one position is for 1 year and one position is for 2 years. Council requires attendance at 2 evening meetings per term and any additional meetings as a member of a sub-committee. Meetings are held on Monday evenings at the College. We begin with dinner at 6pm in Cafe 115 and commence our meeting at 6.30pm. The dates have been set for the remainder of 2018, as follows:

  • 4 June
  • 6 August
  • 3 September
  • 22 October
  • 26 November (TBC)

I, therefore, call for nominations for student representatives to join our College Council. There are two ways students can be nominated, they can arrange for another student in Year 7 or above at Hazel Glen College to nominate them or they can self-nominate. Nomination forms can be collected from the College Administration Office (Eminence Boulevard). Please return completed nomination forms to Megan in the College Administration Office and she will provide you with a Nomination Form Receipt.

If more nominations than vacancies are received, the election process takes the form of a student ballot. If a ballot is required, a list of candidates and nominators will be posted on 16 May. All students in Year 7 to Year 10 will be provided ballot papers with instructions on 21 May.
