Welcome back to Term 3!  I hope that all students and families had a relaxing holiday period, and I hope not too many families were affected by the many restrictions across the country.

Semester 2 provides an opportunity for students to reassess their achievements over Semester 1 and set new goals and targets for the remainder of the year.  Student reports will provide strong indications of target areas for improvement for many.  For our senior school students and particularly those in Year 12, Term 3 is a very important term to ensure successful completion of all coursework prior to the exam period starting early next term.

Over the coming weeks, all students across the College will commence practice and rehearsals for their Performing Arts showcase later in the term as part of our House activities.  This event is a highlight of the year across the College.  More information around performance dates and the possibility of parents attending will be shared later in the term as we will require guidance from the Department regarding the current restrictions at the time.

A big thank you to Steph Williams and the production team, who were in over the holidays completing many rehearsals and getting props ready for this year’s production of Matilda.  We are very excited as a College and cannot wait for opening night on 3 September.  I have seen many students and staff wearing their Matilda tops over the last few days, which has increased the excitement for all students and staff across the College.  We would love to see as many parents, students and staff as possible in attendance supporting all of our students at this event.  Tickets will go on sale Monday.

It was lovely this morning to see all of our Year 12 students wearing their personalised Year 12 jumpers that were presented to them at the end of Term 2.  Year 12 students are allowed to wear this garment for the remainder of the year as a sign of respect to them for completing the final term of their 13 years of education.  I wish all students in Year 12 the very best of luck for the term.

I would like to recognise the work of the College maintenance team in the construction of walkway shelters between many portables across the College.  The construction of these cover ways has provided protection from both inclement weather and the hot sun.  They are a welcome addition for many students and staff, and I am very grateful for their work and expertise in developing these structures for the College.

In addition to this, a cover for the 4/5/6 playground has been constructed over the holiday period, which will provide great protection from the sun and rain for all students.  We are completing the final elements to this construction this week for this facility to be accessible for all students and the community by next week.

It is pleasing to see that COVID restrictions are continuing to be relaxed for students and staff while on the school site, but there are still safety procedures that need to be followed for parents and community members that are required to attend onsite meetings and events.  Meetings to be held onsite require guests and staff to wear face masks and social distance at 1 person per 2 square metres.  Also, all students aged 12 and above are required to wear a face mask while travelling on any public transport; your support in reinforcing this at home would be greatly appreciated.

With the concerns and challenges that NSW is currently facing, I ask parents to stay vigilant and continue to follow all COVID safe practices around being tested and staying at home if you or your child displays any symptoms.

Thank you for your ongoing support of the College and your children.  I wish all students, staff and families a successful Term 3.

Best wishes,
Anthony Stockwell
College Principal
